L'Eree Aerodrome
Pic - Richard Heaume Collection

On the 15th September 1934 L’Eree Aerodrome received two visiting aircraft. G-ABMC was a DH Puss Moth ( the one that had previously visited Sark in 1933) and the other G-ACJZ an Avro 638 Club Cadet. Flown by Mssrs. Naish and Turner, the aircraft arrived after an invitation by the Guernsey Aero Club to ‘test’ the new landing ground, which was now deemed suitable for light aircraft. A number of local flights were flown with island residents. Slight alterations and improvements were suggested and the club decided to go ahead with these and to apply for an Aerodrome licence,
there was even talk of Aircraft Exchange and Mart Ltd setting up a flying school - but this was to come to nothing. There was a snag when the aircraft tried to return to the UK mainland when Customs prevented a takeoff because the airfield was not a licensed aerodrome. As quote in a national aviation magazine said “Guernsey has its own obstructionists, and all is not yet “plane’-sailing” . (Some things have never changed!)
